A good chocolate chip cookie recipe is something you come back to time and time again. Chocolate chip cookies are the kind of cookie snack that we can have in the cookie jar on any given day. They are great for school snacks, and when you need a bit of chocolate during the day. Some of the ingredients you will need for this chocolate chip cookie recipe include all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, and some room temperature butter. You will also need some light brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla extract and the best part, the semisweet chocolate chips.
Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then line two baking sheets with some parchment paper or spray with some non-stick cooking spray. In a medium bowl, start by sifting the all-purpose flour, some baking soda, and salt together. Then in another large bowl, use an electric mixer set at medium speed, and beat together the butter, and sugars for approximately two minutes and the mixture is smooth. Add the egg and vanilla to the mixing bowl and mix on low speed. Then slowly add the flour mixture, mixing until just incorporated. You don't want to overmix. Add the chocolate chips and stir these in with a wooden spoon, making sure again to not overmix. Stir until they are just incorporated. If the cookie dough recipe is warm, you want to chill it.
Next, drop the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, approximately 6 to 8 per pan, the amount will depend on the size of chocolate chip cookie you want. You can bake the cookies; one sheet at a time, just until the bottoms and the edges of the cookies are lightly browned, and the tops of the cookies feel firm when they are lightly touched.
Some tips to help ensure that your chocolate chip cookie recipe turns out the best include using butter that is room temperature, the butter shouldn't be melted or softened just room temperature. You can also try using the cold dough. Both these baking tips help to avoid flat cookies. If you are finding that the cookie recipe doesn't set up properly, you might need to use a bit more all purpose flour. Not a lot, maybe just a tablespoon or two. Also, make sure not to overmix the cookie dough batter. Lastly, if the cookie dough is warm, be sure to put it in the refrigerator before baking.
