There's something about living in a log home or log cabin that makes us feel comfortable, special and at home. I can remember growing up my grandfather built the log cabin we spent several of my favorite summers in. The log cabin was built from trees that were on the property, and the cabin was located on a lake. The only way to the log cabin was by boat, making the location that much more special, as it wasn't exactly easy to get there. Perhaps it's that tradition that log homes and log cabins have held through the years, they are some of the first homes in the area in which they stood or stand. There is also something to be said about living in a home that is made with all natural materials, it ties you to where you live and furthers your connection to nature.

Barns aren't just for storing farm equipment and animals anymore, nowadays you will find beautiful barns used as combination homes and shelters for horses, or just as homes alone. You will also find barns used for special events such as weddings and parties. Typically a barn is an agricultural building primarily located on farms and used for many purposes, most often for the housing of livestock and storage of crops. In addition, barns may be used for equipment storage, as a covered workplace, and for activities such as threshing. The word barn is also used to describe buildings used for uses such as a tobacco barn or dairy barn. Byre is a word for one type of barn meant for keeping cattle. In the United States older barns were built from timbers hewn from trees on the farm and built as a log crib barn or timber frame, although stone barns were sometimes built in areas where stone was a cheaper material for building. In the mid to late 19th century barn framing methods in the United States began to shift away from traditional timber framing to truss framed or plank framed buildings. Truss or plank framed barns reduced the number of timbers instead using dimensional lumber for the rafters, joists, and sometimes the trusses.
