The appeal of building small seems to be spreading like wildfire as the costs of living and the availability of land become more outrageous for the former and less available for the latter. However, even within the category of tiny homes there are those that are quite expensive and then some inventive individuals that are able to build their home for ridiculously low amounts of money.
One of our favorite examples is that of Derek Diedricksen who has built a tiny home for 300$ with the help of using recycled materials and materials that he found. The cabin is tiny, mind you, with a whopping dimension of 8 feet by 8 feet, which is not necessarily practical for most people. If you are looking for an upscale version of a tent, then this little idea is for you. A great way to get more space out of this itty bitty living abodes is to create a spacious deck that is screen in and covered so that it is usable.
Derek 'Deek' Diedricksen is a well sought after name in the world of tiny homes, and has even written a book on the subject. He includes in his interesting post; a list of 10 favorites books on the subject of tiny homes, vacation cabins and so on. If you ever get a chance to follow more of his speaking schedule, it is certainly worth the time or drive or whatever it takes to get you there.
Could you imagine living in something so small? Do you know someone who does live in a tiny home and has built it for cheap? Do you even believe it is possible to build a tiny home for under 300$!? There are just those people out there in the world who seem to be able to make something out of nothing, and this example is one of them.
